ABSTRACT

The chapter bring out the significance of Kangri in the life of Kashmiri people. It encompasses environment, culture, economics and convenience for the people of Kashmir. Cultural tradition and climate necessities work together in the continuance of a centuries old practice of carrying Kangri, a portable heat source, under the clothes during the winter months, from about the beginning of November up until late March. The chapter describes the perspective of Kangri, and also throw light on the incidence of Kangri burn cancer, and the research on the cancer done by Dr. W. J. Elmslie, Dr. E. F. Neve and Imtiaz Wani.
