ABSTRACT
The African Union Commission on International Law's (AUCIL) creation in 2009 was hailed as setting the foundations for a new era of African legal regime making. Although it has now entered its second decade, the AUCIL remains in its infancy. This paper is looking into the roots of the AUCIL and its progression thus far and sheds light on its experience and possible future direction. It shares some insights about how the Commission may refine its mission and become a model to be emulated by other countries.
