ABSTRACT

Emotional education is not a common program in higher education although it is necessary and becomes critical in times of crises. Emotional education contributes to advance self-knowledge as an important dimension in wellbeing pursuit. This chapter examines implications of a mindfulness program tailored to develop students’ Soft Skills aiming to improve mental health. The chapter is based on a study conducted in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. Results show that development of five Soft Skills, namely, self-awareness, emotional regulation, social consciousness, self-control and emotional creativity attained significant reductions in anxiety, depression and stress and increased satisfaction with health, quality of life and the development among the 55 students in the sample, demonstrating that emotional education focused on development of Soft Skills help improve health supporting wellbeing necessary to deal with disruptions in times of crises.
