ABSTRACT

The Covid pandemic considerably increased incidence of psychosocial risks among healthcare workers resulting in chronic attendance pressure, burnout, depression and compassion fatigue. These distressful results contrast deeply with the wave of sympathy, solidarity and gratitude of people leaning about occupational issues and unsettling problems changing the workplace in healthcare services that spurred during the Covid pandemic. This chapter discusses important issues that surfaced during the crisis to understand the complexity of the problems. The discussion includes proposals to facilitate assessment required for improvements needed to diminish and prevent psychosocial risks that blasted during pandemic disruptions. In this challenging environment, demanding solutions from management aimed at restoring the wellbeing in healthcare institutions and the sector are critical. Human Centered Management principles and practices are discussed with potential to rebuild people's wellbeing across the sector to secure job satisfaction, high performance and institutional sustainability in the healthcare sector.
