ABSTRACT

The Great Resignation (GR) is one among a multitude of unprecedented pandemic disruptions affecting wellbeing in the workplace. Understanding the principles and practices of Human Centered Management (HCM) can help to objectively assess Covid-related issues, tensions pressing employees to leave their jobs in a search for better conditions and job opportunities that rarely led to desirable outcome. While disruption and crises are not unusual for organizations, the GR called attention to employer–employee relations and organizational responses to crises. This chapter examines trends that led to the GR in South Africa in the context of HCM with the aim of facilitating understanding of current trends affecting wellbeing, impairing resilience and the Life–Work Continuum.
