ABSTRACT

As compared to other animals, humans are born prematurely, when many of their vital systems are still underdeveloped. Like a kitten, as a representation of other animals, leaves its mother to forage on its own when it is just a few weeks old. Human babies are helpless, dependent for many years on their elders for sustenance, protection and education. This fact presents that humans can be educated and socialised to a far greater extent than any other animal (Sapiens, Harari). The flexibility of a human baby to learn and form their perceptions draws great responsibility on the society with respect to moulding their learning and development atmosphere.

As we can realise from the statement that human off spring does not take birth with pre-existing notions and beliefs of world affairs, “in order to thrive in today’ s rapidly changing world, children need rich learning opportunities in and out of school that allow them to adapt and engage in independent and lifelong learning” (Brookings, 2021). Early childhood years are called the building blocksof human life. It plays the most important role in the development of a human being. Nascent years (0-5 years) are called the critical period because it is important for the brain functioning and development (PubMed Central NCBI, 2009) For this, the child needs good nutrition, health, care, secure emotional attachment to a primary caregiver and stimulation.

This research paper documents a placemaking initiative which was carried out on a local level to create a child inclusive place in the city’s urban infrastructure, which implemented play-based learning through onsite physical infrastructure and psychological elements. The paper analyses the purpose of these activities substantiated with evidence through interviews, forms, community engagement and scientific and psychological research.
