ABSTRACT

This chapter emphasizes the use of digital visual aids (i.e., PowerPoint and Keynote) in public speaking contexts. The chapter will begin by providing a discussion of presentation programs and the ubiquitous nature of these programs. Next, the chapter interrogates why college instructors teach the use of PowerPoint or other digital visual aids, and then examines creating and giving presentations that include digital visual aids. The chapter also includes suggestions for both presenters and audience members. All told, the chapter covers both our theoretical understanding and practical use of digital resources to aid presentations. Lastly, the chapter cites relevant scholarly sources and research articles that help to support our current understanding of the use of PowerPoint in presentations.
