ABSTRACT

The chapter focuses on support for families, especially parents, in acquiring competence to regulate and self-regulate the use of media and communication technologies by members of Polish families. The aim of the research is to determine which Polish institutions support families and parents in increasing awareness, knowledge, and skills regarding media regulation, especially self-regulation, and how they accomplish it. The research was carried out using the method of analysing documents, educational materials, and promotional materials on 56 programmes, projects, and activities carried out in the studied area in Poland by governmental, non-governmental, and commercial institutions from 2002 to 2021. The results indicate that the initiatives carried out are based on two main types of media moderation: restrictive and active, and focus very little on self-regulation, especially in children.
