ABSTRACT

A member of the Belgian experimental FRMK group active in the field of visual narrative in print, Olivier Deprez is a woodcut artist whose specific domain is the book as object. This chapter deals with three of his groundbreaking productions. First, BBB, or the performance of the in situ printing of a completely black book. Second, WREK NOT WORK, a curated exhibition project that blurs the boundaries between 2D print and 3D environment. And third HOLZ, a handmade large size magazine that makes room for ritual forms of reading while further testing the relationships between opacity and transparency. The chapter analyses the material aspects of these work as well as issues related to their reception.
