ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, Gohar Homayounpour asks a startling question (i.e., Why didn’t Freud include the superego in his title, even though he spends considerable space writing about its role in his new model?) After a careful detailing of the role of the superego as Freud described in this metapsychological essay, Homayounpour presents an interesting speculation as to why Freud left out the superego in his title. She suggests that Freud taught us to be aware of what isn’t said and, in this way, drew our attention to the superego even more.
