ABSTRACT

This article looks at the impact of the COVID-19 crisis in the United Kingdom. COVID-19 is a health issue but one that would have significant economic and constitutional implications for the UK. Moreover, the asymmetric responses across the UK put pressure on the very fabric of the country, as the four nations – Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland – pursued differing policies in response to COVID-19 and within England certain regions perceived themselves to have been treated unfairly. All of these issues reinforced and magnified the implications of the issue that had overshadowed British politics for years: Brexit.
