ABSTRACT

Over the last two years, the coronavirus pandemic has turned life upside-down all over the world. The lockdowns have forced businesses, schools, institutions of higher learning, and other public spaces to stop operations. To maintain these operations in compliance with the social distancing requirement, employees were compelled to work from home (WFH). Academics are one group of employees that have been working from home since the lockdowns and have experienced problems and limitations during this time. Giving lectures, guiding research, organizing discussions, and conducting online exams have gradually become habits for many university academics. Some think that working via the Internet can save time for academics and control their work and progress, but there is a downside to it as they strive to maneuver around the many challenges at the expenses of their mental state and self-care. This chapter looks at self-care strategies to help balance the sacred threesome of conducting classes, doing research, and providing services in academe.
