ABSTRACT
The Museum of London has developed a project intended for London’s schools to improve the access to its nationally important Roman archaeological collections. It would like to provide a ‘mini-museum’ of Roman material, suitably packed and presented, to every state and special school in greater London – a total of over 2,000 schools. The London Archaeological Archive holds the secrets to the lives of past Londoners. The museum views London as one big archaeological site and each individual excavation contributes a snapshot to the bigger picture. The cost of travel prevents many from reaching the museum and as a consequence they cannot benefit from access to the collections. During the autumn of 1999, the boxes, storage materials, and replicas were assembled in the museum’s store in Hackney.
