ABSTRACT

The study assesses vulnerability, adaptive capacity and coping mechanism of community during the 2018 urban floods in Kerala. The study aims at bridging the gap by assessing vulnerability, adaptive capacity and coping mechanism of community as suggested by IPCC framework. The methodology and indicators for assessment have been conceptualized to suit socio-cultural aspect of the community in Kerala. These indicators could be measured against several variants which will help assess the current level of a community’s resilience. The paper brings out recommendations based the quantitative analytical data on ground to improve the resilience of the community during urban floods.
