ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how technology's human or people factor is causing dramatic and sweeping changes inside government organizations, big and small. Through citizen-centric systems, public managers will be able to create more effective teams, systems, and government organizations. The chapter explores how and why collaboration is essential for effective government management, as well as what collaboration tools are being used to address this growing need and opportunity. Today, technology professionals in the IT chain of command are building mobile applications to help workers be more efficient on the go and constructing complex technology resources with varying levels of security access and encryption. Data specialists are the newest classification of technologists appearing universally in public and private sector organizations. In the private sector, technological roles are often defined by an individual's skillset and primary function as part of a team.
