ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the teaching of interculturality in Swedish higher education. The notion of interculturality has been pivotal in a variety of different academic subjects in Swedish higher education for a long time. However, the concept has been theoretically underdeveloped, reproducing, e.g., functionalist ideas of ‘intercultural competence’. To problematise this understanding, the author strives to promote a polycentric approach by integrating different perspectives. Examples from teaching interculturality with the support of world cinema and in early childhood education is provided.
