ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines current understandings of child and family resilience and how early education can offer a source of support. A holistic educational paradigm is introduced as an orientation to the health of the whole supportive to individual lives within it. Examples are shared of research exploring the contemporary contribution of Froebelian holistic pedagogy in preschool-organised family trips to local natural environments. The findings illuminate a rich influential potential between child, family, community, and environment and the support offered by holistic pedagogy in valuing the social and environmental relations it is positioned to promote. Such practice can facilitate the wellbeing and resilience of children, families, and potentially for communities, and environments and facilitate access to support for families in proactive or reactive ways.
