ABSTRACT

In the context of a society faced with numerous challenges, concerns about children’s wellbeing continue to steer efforts from early childhood educators. Still emerging from a 21st-century pandemic, children are growing up in the context of a world burdened with societal uncertainties, violence, and the threat from adversity in many parts of the globe. It is within this context that the notion of resilience emerges as a reminder of the human capacity to overcome challenging experiences. This chapter explores the main conceptualizations from research on resilience and its implication for practitioners to drive efforts leading to ensure the wellbeing of children. It also lays out the plan for this book and the multifold views about resiliency, children, families, and communities.
