ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to explore resilience in children with disabilities with emphasis on positive relationships and the formation of friendships between children with and without disabilities, as important elements in building resilience in such populations. The importance of friendships in the lives of children with disabilities and challenges is explored through the literature and leads to discussions about the role of early years policy, provision and practice in enhancing resilience and wellbeing through enabling positive relationships with peers, boosting acceptance and promoting friendships between children with and without disabilities in inclusive settings.
