ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the 15-year journey of the organisation Julie’s Bicycle from working with the music industry to reduce its carbon footprint, to becoming the major provider of advice to the UK’s cultural sector in meeting the climate challenge. It sets the evolution of the organisation in the context of emerging developments in climate policy and eventually legislation to remind us that the evidence has been with us for decades: political will and funding have lagged far behind. Despite the disappointingly slow progress, there is still time to make a difference – arts and culture are key to changing hearts and minds to let this happen.
