ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the systemic issues regarding sustainable practice in conservation and collections care. From economic unsustainability to “best” practice, the conservation field has multiple hurdles to overcome in making active change in the face of the climate crisis. However, conservators are uniquely equipped to deal with this issue. By unpacking the fundamental values of conservation and examining practices in holistic terms, conservation can be at the heart of preserving our heritage in a truly sustainable way.
