ABSTRACT

The chapter reflects on a planning instructor's decade-long experience in collaborating on university-community partnerships for studio-based and non-studio-based formats of planning classes with 9 communities on 11 planning projects in Alabama and Georgia, US. The author discusses the process of collaboration, key tasks, and roles of the partners involved, partnership outcomes from the class, benefits, and logistics of establishing community engagement projects, including challenges and key lessons learned from such partnerships. Overall, the author shares experiences as a guide for other planning programs and faculty to establish similar partnerships.
