ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the Reedy River planning partnership between Greenville city and county with Clemson University planning and design faculty, which engaged the community in a very public and large-scale planning process in 2001. The resulting framework for development has been followed and implemented to create a vibrant trail along the river, lead to a broader trail system, open an abandoned section of the county (and city) for redevelopment, and encourage further open space and recreation areas. Clemson's direct engagement with city and county officials and other local private and non-profit sector leaders enabled Clemson to create several significant public-private research and teaching partnerships.
