ABSTRACT

This chapter provides case studies of university-community partnerships in planning education from across the globe – South Korea, Australia, India, Canada, and the United States. It focuses on a discrete project or engagement, offers a description of the project and its goals, partners, and activities, as well a discussion on the outcomes of the project from the perspectives of the partners, the larger community, students, faculty, the program, and the institution. While each case, and its surrounding context, is unique, the possibilities and the limitations of university-community partnerships are explored, offering insights for how these projects can work in practice from a diversity of settings and perspectives. The chapter describes a partnership between Ewha Womans University and the community of Uri-maeul in Seoul, South Korea, in which the faculty and students assisted with a small-scale housing improvement project, which was part of larger regeneration efforts within the city and was funded through a competitive grant.
