ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case of one Sydney community that joined forces with the town planning students from Western Sydney University to study ways to improve the sustainability of its local transport. The students conducted a survey of the local community on their preferences for the public bus size, route, and timetable; a bus patronage study; and an interview with a transport economist. The findings were synthesized into a plan of action for the bus service improvement. This chapter presents a summary of the findings of the study and sets it to the broader context of the university-community partnership.
