ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the organizational resilience of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), within the context of governance challenges related to geopolitical shifts and politically sensitive situations, such as war. The discussion questions whether the current integration of social responsibility commitments and policy within the FIA’s structural design and the ad hoc way in which politically sensitive situations have been dealt with are sustainable. The chapter analyzes two scenarios for how the FIA may manage potential environmental jolts: internal entrepreneurship; and external demands. It concludes with recommendations to FIA on how to earn a legitimate ‘right to rule’ on global motorsport and generate trust and accountability as a geopolitical actor.
