ABSTRACT

This chapter will highlight some of the more practical elements of intrapreneurship, and how they can be fostered in a professional environment. Given the broad scope of what can be considered as ‘intrapreneurial’, it is important to link relevant topics in a way that provides context on how to appropriately view the wide range of relevant concepts, practices and theories in a way that makes sense of the overlapping and influential components. This chapter outlines the context of what ‘Intrapreneurship’ can mean in the professional environment and the links between intrapreneurship and other known innovations and corporate practices. There will be demonstrations of how practices such as Design Thinking, the Circular Economy, Business Model Innovation, as well as events such as the COVID-19 Pandemic can be considered through an intrapreneurial lens. Practical examples will then highlight some key experiences to showcase the importance of internal innovation (using examples such as Kodak and Xerox) and explore other areas that companies can benefit from a focus on intrapreneurship.
