ABSTRACT

The rise of the global supply chain is similarly challenged as nations seek to protect their intellectual property by shortening these chains as much as possible. Technology in the business environment is increasing in its application at an unprecedented rate. Digital disruption has become the norm where traditional businesses have been challenged with startup creativity, thinking and innovation, which has been applied through cultural change in both intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial contexts and thought processes. ‘Startup mindsets’ are being encouraged in multinational enterprises to foster intrapreneurship through disruptive innovations with a view to increasing competitiveness, and differentiation. This chapter reviews key literature on intrapreneurship and the contribution made to create a competitive advantage in the launch of new services, products and processes to ensure long-term sustainability. Practical examples of intrapreneurship and the implementation of disruptive innovations are included in this analysis. An innovative and creative culture can facilitate disruptive innovations, new business models and leadership thinking to offer customers, clients and consumers an improved product or service offering. In the process, the organization remains competitive, and top of mind, and ensures its sustainability.
