ABSTRACT

Symptom and Performance Validity Tests are commonly included in neuropsychological test batteries. This chapter reviews how these tests should be used, including a three-phase model for how feedback should be provided when they are failed. Adherence to assessment recommendations often requires a family to make adjustments or changes, such as incorporating regular visits to a psychotherapist, occupational therapist, or learning specialist, having their child take medication, developing an effective routine for homework, and other time and labor-intensive activities. One of the neuropsychologist’s most important undertakings is to judge the validity of the data generated in an assessment. The chapter closes with recommendations for how feedback should be provided to schools, with reference to the Individualized Education Program process.
