ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the implementation of multiliteracies combined with the concept of translanguaging and by extension transposition in Greek, Spanish, and US educational contexts. An overview of the terms and their connection is presented, followed by their exploration through a recent research project. This case study incorporated an innovative language learning design supported by digital and artificial intelligence tools and following a translingual–transpositional–multimodal pedagogical and communicative approach coupled with collaborative interactions among learners in online, higher education courses in Greece, Spain, and the USA. The findings suggest that the participating students felt more comfortable in using their holistic communicative repertoire as they familiarized themselves with the use of multiple digital tools in various aspects of the project’s activities. The results also provide evidence for the benefits of integrating innovative digital tools in collaborative language learning settings to support and extend learners’ multimodal and multilingual communicative repertoires.
