ABSTRACT

It is widely recognized that in today’s interconnected world, it is essential for European citizens to communicate globally by learning foreign languages. To this end, many national and regional educational systems across Europe have shifted to bilingual education models, which involve teaching content subjects in foreign languages. This chapter focuses on implementing one such model in Spain, the CLIL approach, and aims to develop an instrument for examining the quality standard of CLIL curricular design. To achieve this objective, a literature review was conducted on the theoretical foundations of CLIL, and the main competencies defined within the European Framework for CLIL Teacher Education. Based on this review, a checklist was developed to assess the standard quality of a CLIL didactic unit for primary education within STEM education. To ensure the validity and reliability of the checklist, external CLIL experts were consulted, and the feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, indicating that the assessment instrument created was highly regarded for its usefulness and applicability.
