ABSTRACT

The use of genealogy in terrapsychology helps to reveal the role that family history plays in patterns inherited from generation to generation. Those patterns might be migratory, psychological, social, spiritual, or related to the landscape, populations, or flora and fauna of the locations in which we settle. To uncover family patterns involves utilizing traditional genealogical methodology as outlined in this chapter, which explains that the resources to do so are often available online at little or no cost. The chapter discusses how genealogy has grown in popularity in the United States the past few years, due in part to the television shows listed and described, which are themselves another resource highlighting the descent of family patterns. By sharing parts of her story, the author demonstrates that when genealogy is combined with the insights from synchroneity, listening to place, and becoming more conscious of our relationship to it, as learned through terrapsychological exploration, a greater sense of self in relationship to family history and place occurs.
