ABSTRACT

Where does sound occur? What connections reveal themselves through acoustic phenomena? What thoughts, impressions, sensations, and feelings arise when attention to sound is given? What is lost when sonic experience is ignored and overlooked? What is the ecological value of listening to a place’s soundscape? To answer these questions, this chapter will explore the terrapsychological implications of sound and will make the case that the soundscape is an essential component of a place’s soul life. It will be argued that sound takes place on the creative edges and meeting points of self and world where deep imaginal and ecological consciousness thrives.
