ABSTRACT

The language of dreams and the language of wild nature echo each other. By coming from a poetic basis of mind and a poetic basis of body, we can arrive at an ecological consciousness – a sort of experience of the world that is multifaceted and multivalent and means many things at the same time. It is an old skill. If we establish a relationship to dreams and to nature, we can bring this into being on a personal level. As a praxis for terrapsychology, understanding how to interact with places in dreams and that places dream through us is a vital language worth learning as it puts us in direct communication with the earth. Of course the trick is hearing the true messages: how to let them live, how to act on them accurately and how to follow them out with integrity. In the following chapter, I will introduce you to a specific language of place dreaming learned from three decades of experience with dreams and wilderness immersion. My hope is this will provide inspiration, ways in which to deepen your relationship with the animate earth and tracking skills in the landscape of terrapyschology that you can customize and attune to your unique pathway of connection.
