ABSTRACT
Birth is an intrinsic and fundamental aspect of nature, and it holds the keys to unlocking the ancient and innate wisdom that lives within our bodies and our natural world. This chapter uses the terrapsychological inquiry (TI) method to gain insight and understanding of how the story of a humanized home birth, and soul connection to place, might reawaken our connection to the feminine energy of the natural world, thus informing a way to heal the planet by tapping into the ancient wisdom found there. In this chapter, I recount my home birth story using an auto-heuristic lens, and then I conduct a TI of the home in which I gave birth in the Outer Sunset district of San Francisco using locianalysis. By analyzing and coding the data collected through those two stories, a set of themes emerged that connected and showed similarities and synchronicities between the two. The research indicated that birth could serve as a microcosm of the entirety of the natural world and may hold key information to inform our understanding of the geographical location we inhabit. By following a return to the feminine energy that is present both literally and symbolically in the birthing process, including but not limited to the ebbs and flows of energy, co-creating the process, and digging deeply to find the energy and root of our natural power and connection, we might imagine a way as humanity to begin rebuilding our connection with the natural world and to heal the damage humankind has inflicted on the planet.
