ABSTRACT

In “The Power of a Secular Shabbat Practice,” Helen L. Conway identifies the positive benefits of taking time away from our creative work and finding time for joy and recuperation. She covers how to define what “ ‘work” ’ is, how a Shabbat can help us access our subconscious and produce more original thoughts, and how creativity thrives on creating differences such as that between work and rest. She challenges readers to deal with limiting mindsets about work and discusses creating fences around work activities to enable creatives to maintain the Shabbat habits they choose to create.
