ABSTRACT

In this chapter, called “How Pietro Used Discipline and Self-imposed Constraints to Complete His Artistic Project,” the author takes the notion that constraints and discipline are a creative’s enemy and turns it on its head. Instead, she embraces them as motivators for creativity and productivity to help creatives get past ingrained beliefs about artistic freedom that slow them down. The author follows Pietro’s journey as he discovers, reluctantly at first, the power of discipline along with time and environmental constraints to help him focus, relax, and ultimately submit his book illustration project on time.
