ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Juan Carlos Sarazúa analyzes cases of exile or refuge of Guatemalans in Mexico in the 19th century and their impact on the construction of parallel political projects on both sides of the border. He studies the role of the state and other social actors in shaping these projects and offers a historiographic assessment of the Guatemala-Mexico border. Based on these elements, the author provides a historical review of the wars of this period and the processes of exile and refuge they caused, analyzing the mutual political influences of those who moved to the other side of the border.
