ABSTRACT
Humans are newcomers to METI but recipients of our messages will likely be civilizations of long-term METI capability. Our mathematics and science will be of little value for them. These should therefore be used only as stepping stones to communication about what we know that extraterrestrials do not: ourselves. Writing systems are a microcosm of the human mind and should play a prominent role in properly planned METI. Visible Speech in particular provides a natural transition from the scientific to the human.
