ABSTRACT

This chapter bridges the relationship between Polyvagal theory, Digital Play TherapyTM, and the ability to foster, recognize, and experience the felt sense of safety in digital spaces. The therapeutic value of digital tools within the therapeutic relationship for the autonomic nervous system is highlighted through the descriptions of Digital Play Therapy, Polyvagal theory, and the therapeutic powers of play. Recognition of the powerful states of the dorsal and ventral systems during digital play, and consequently the impacts the attuned, attentive, and informed therapist can have for the client, is critical for the digital native client.
