ABSTRACT

Maggie Lochs, an independent instructional design (ID) consultant, sat at her desk anxiously waiting for her phone to ring. Maggie had 20 years’ experience working as an instructional designer. After working for a training and development company that produced training products for healthcare education, Maggie had decided to go out on her own as an independent contractor. A lot of Maggie’s work consisted of conducting needs assessments and designing e-learning modules for clients. Last Friday, she received an email from Ted Evans, director of digital production at Global Training Innovations (GTI), inquiring about her availability to conduct a needs assessment to improve their ID efforts.
