ABSTRACT

Drawing on experience as course leader for the MA Independent Film and Video at the School of Media, London College of Printing, London Institute (now London College of Communications, University of the Arts, London), this paper raised questions associated with the theory-practice relation focussing on the creation of the appropriate teaching space, or forum, for practitioners concerned to contextualise their experience. The paper opened issues relating to ‘post-experience’ postgraduate education (as opposed to training or skills development) for practitioners. Emphasis is laid on the centrality of the critical workshop as a forum for explorative and analytic discussion.
