ABSTRACT

Relics of a secret design were found hidden inside the wall of an old building in Bologna, Italy. Endless stories can be inferred from them. They were hidden for all the possible accidents of the real. The necessity of their secrecy seems to be the essence of architecture: there is always something to hide in order to build; there is always something to build in order to hide. This is why to build, one shall hide something, whether they like it or not. But an architect might say: “I have nothing to hide!” This negation is the full expression of their hubris. The architect shall be sure to hide the nothingness. But conspirators of these secrets think again and again about how to accomplish the truth of the destiny of these relics - packing them, travelling vast distances and joining unpredictable situations in an empty school of architecture during the COVID-19 pandemic. Is there always such emptiness waiting for something to be hidden?
