ABSTRACT

The coronavirus-positive lab report led to the intense trembling of limbs to the extent that he failed to hold the colourful printed A4 size paper in his hands. The paper did not land perpendicularly on the ground; instead, before touching the ground, floated for a few moments to remind what it carries. Yes, this was the response of a 42-year-old physician to his COVID-positive lab report. The SARS-CoV-2 virus left a trail of indelible mark on the collective mind of humanity. The impact of COVID-19 transcended all psycho-geographical boundaries and sectors associated with human beings. It has emerged as a significant research topic and generated substantial scientific literature. According to Teixeira da Silva et al., 23,634 unique documents were published between 1 January and 30 June 2020. The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers reports, “Scientific research papers on COVID-19 have been downloaded more than 150 million times since the international publishing community provided free access to tens of thousands of articles”. Considering the massive volume of COVID-19-related research documents, the idea of the present book emerged. The review strategy was considered optimal to cover maximum studies from diverse perspectives. The book has nine chapters, of which five are systematic reviews, one narrative review, one thematic analysis, one scoping review, and one systematic literature review. The chapters covered 196 studies with a total sample of 2,169,633 (within the age groups of 12 to 89 years). The studies are sourced from all major publishing houses. These houses made COVID-19-related studies freely available for researchers. It was no less than publishers’ unique contribution to the world to fight the dreaded avatar that surprised humanity. This chapter aims to paint a broad picture of the contents, usefulness, utility, relevance, and collective repository of pandemic-related findings from varied perspectives.
