ABSTRACT

This chapter is a personal account of the process of writing a master’s thesis in Gender Studies about the Swedish Prison and Probation Service while also being an insider of said Agency, working as a correctional officer at a women’s prison. The thesis explored the ongoing (at the time) friction surrounding the rainbow flag within the Agency. However, being situated in this flux of positions gave rise to certain tensions, and criticism from the community of gender scholars. The process of thinking and feeling through these tensions eventually led to an emerging curiosity and thought-provoking insights about the Gender Studies classroom.
