ABSTRACT

If anything is known by those of us who live in space and time as the authors do, it isn't known outside of movement. For instance, the earth spins on its axis and revolves around the sun, so anyone who hasn't been off-planet and outside of the earth's orbit has only experienced movement. And even then, the universe itself seems to be expanding, and unless its temperature is at absolute zero, the very matter of which the are made vibrates. Movement is the default. Stillness would take much effort. Because iconography isn't bound like that of written language involving signs, media such as cinematic media need to rely upon genres as interpretive frameworks to be friendly in a readerly way. And while on the topic of cinema and movement, the author reminded of Gilles Deleuze's theorization of the movement-image which is influenced by Bergson's ideas in Matter and memory.
