ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to show how multi-agent models make it possible to design and simulate the behaviour of actors on a logistics corridor, in this case, in the Seine Valley. In particular, this tool allows us to anticipate the impact of policies favouring mass modes of transport. Two case studies are outlined in this chapter. First, we show how we can predict the impact of the future Seine–Nord Europe Canal on global import flows towards the Seine Valley and Paris area. The second study considers a specific industrial sector that has a significant presence in the Seine Valley and offers an analysis of different scenarios with regard to the possible use of short sea shipping, in particular regarding CO2 emissions.
