ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss future thinking by exploring the complex relationships between humans, nature, and design. The first stage introduces the present state of the future, beginning with the role of human imagination and the practice of scenario-building. The second stage assesses memories of future(s), moving beyond dominant Western visions to highlight the importance of localized perspectives. Finally, we’ll look into some philosophies and frameworks that can help retune our future thinking, taking into consideration post-anthropocentric, post-development, and more-than-human concepts.
