ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims to demonstrate the changing scapes of international academic mobility (IAM) in the light of the recently experienced new normal with respect to social, political, economic, educational, and human factors. It concentrates on traditional issues during academic mobility, mainly the degree of students’ language development, cultural awareness of the host countries, and identity construction. The book then investigates the ups and downs of academic mobility in the context of travel policies, program coordination, network capital, as well as cross-cultural and linguistic perceptions in times of uncertainty. It also investigates the impact of international mobility programs on fostering European identity among students of CIS countries. The book examines the attitudes of Turkish students participating in Erasmus exchange programs towards learning the local languages and culture.
