ABSTRACT

This chapter contributes to the emerging literature that examines the impact of travel restriction policies during the COVID-19 epidemic on international student mobility. In particular, it reviews Australia’s and China’s travel policies and their impacts on international student mobility between early 2020 and August 2022. The analysis shows that both countries implemented stringent travel policies and control tactics to halt the spread of the virus, followed by a decline in the enrolment and mobility of international students. These policies also led to challenges in students’ study and living experiences. Although the two nations have made proactive steps to resume student mobility, the pace of recovery remains uncertain.
